Who Is a Good Candidate for Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)?
When it comes to vision correction solutions, there seems to be almost too many options to select from. However, there are some that are more popular than others like LASIK and cataract surgery, but there is a revolutionary solution that you might not have heard of – Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE!
You might be wondering what makes a good candidate for RLE vs a different vision correction procedure. Let’s walk through those reasons together!
Age – How Does Your Age Impact Candidacy for Vision Correction?
One of the biggest factors for vision correction procedures is your age. This is because as you age so does your eyes! This also affects where the core issues are located, within your anatomy. When you round your 50th birthday, your eye’s core issues are focused on the actual lens in your eye vs earlier in life they are in the cornea.
Other vision correction procedures, like LASIK, address the cornea, while RLE addresses the lens!
Current Prescription – How Your Current Prescription Affects Vision Correction Procedures?
If your current prescription is used to address nearsightedness, farsightedness, and/or astigmatism you might be a candidate for RLE! Not only does RLE address the aging lens in your eye it will also be able to correct your vision loss. LASIK, commonly known as “permanent contacts or glasses”, is not able to fix or address certain prescriptions that RLE is able to!
Other Vision Concerns – If I Have Pre-existing Conditions, Can I Still Get RLE?
Dry Eye & RLE, Are You Still a Candidate for RLE if you have Dry Eye?
The short answer, maybe! Depending on the severity of your Dry Eye, your surgeon may suggest an alternative procedure. However, it is very common that you will still be able to get RLE!
Diabetes & RLE – Are You a Candidate for RLE if You Have Diabetes
Yes! Just because you have diabetes, that does not prevent you from getting the life changing benefits of RLE!
Autoimmune Diseases & RLE – Are You a Candidate for RLE if You Have an Autoimmune Disease?
Unfortunately, you are not a candidate for RLE if you have an autoimmune disease. If you have questions about your vision, please feel free to reach out and we can connect you with a surgeon to help you!
To determine whether you’re a candidate for RLE you can start by taking your self-test. If you are a candidate, we encourage you to schedule your free, no obligation, virtual consultation to take the next step towards visual freedom!
